I attempted the Arizona Trail in the spring of 2022, but my undiagnosed celiac disease and untreated hip and back pain doomed the hike from the start. I bailed after approximately 160 difficult miles and came home sick, tired, in pain, and very discouraged. It took months for me to finally go to the doctor, but thanks to a caring primary care physician, a patient physical therapist, and wonderful technicians and specialists, I am feeling better than I have in years! To read more about my health journey, check out these posts: Gluten, It's Not You, It's Me, and Pain In The Ass. So to celebrate my good health, I have decided to attempt to hike the Arizona Trail AGAIN!
Most people hike the AZT northbound in the spring from the border of Mexico to the border of Utah which was true for my first attempt. My AZT 2.0 hike will be a fall southbound adventure from the border of Utah to the border of Mexico. My start date is Friday, September 29th with a tentative finish date of Sunday, November 12th. The Arizona trail is different from other long trails I have hiked and hiking southbound will also add a new twist to the adventure. Stay tuned for more information on the Arizona Trail and my thru-hike plans!
I made an announcement video for a previous hike. It's a bit dated, but it still seems fun to me, but maybe it's just me.
