From my spring 2022 northbound attempt of the AZT |
The Arizona Trail, that's what! Just 800 miles of mountains, deserts, and a really big canyon that can only be described as grand! Since I already announced my hike in a previous post, I thought I might share some additional information on the trail and how my preparations are coming along!
The official name for the Arizona Trail (AZT) is The Arizona National Scenic Trail. It was designated a national scenic trail by Congress in 2009 and is the 9th of the current 11 national scenic trails. It is administered by the U.S. Forest Service and there is a non-profit whose mission is to "protect, maintain, enhance, promote and sustain the Arizona Trail as a unique encounter with the natural environment." Check out the Arizona Trail Association (ATA) website for lots of great information on the trail.
Here is a map of the trail. Click it to enjoy an interactive map of the trail. The gear icon on the map will open up a world of information that can be added to the basic map! (Best accessed from a computer.)
I have completed my itinerary so I know when, where, and how much food and supplies Eva will be mailing to me along the way. Below is a PDF of my itinerary for the hike. The yellow highlighted lines are possible locations where Eva might meet me...if she misses me enough to fly to Arizona, rent a car, and drive to the middle of nowhere to find a smelly hiker. Sounds romantic, doesn't it?
Can't wait until my hike begins and I start uploading stories, pictures, and videos? Check out this AZT video from 2021. Julia hiked northbound from the Mexico border and I am hiking southbound from the Utah border. She also has daily vlogs so check out her channel. There are plenty of videos to keep you occupied until my hike begins. But don't forget who your favorite thru-hiker is: ME!
If you got the Bible reference in the blog post title, congratulations! If not, you better keep reading your Bible, because this won't be the last time I try to sound smart or funny by using a Bible reference. You ARE reading your Bible, right? If not, here is a button to start reading NOW!

That is a really big button. The Bible must be really important! |
