Jan from Alaska walked by me this morning and took this picture. It was 6:10 am and I was finishing breakfast and getting ready to pack up and get moving myself. A saw her again at lunchtime and she airdropped this photo to me. The is Jan’s first thru hike, but her hiking partner is a long distance hiking veteran. I enjoyed listening to her trail stories and hearing about the hiking legends she knows.
Today was another 20+ mile day that required some careful planning and attention make sure I had enough water. I had cell service after dinner so I walked and talked to Eva until sunset. Just before dark I found a flat spot near the trail, set up camp and crawled into my tent. My normal routine is to be horizontal by around 8:00 pm and not be stand up for approximately 10 hours. This gives my legs a chance to rest and recover. And what if I need to us the bathroom in the middle of the night? No getting out of the tent for me…I carry a plastic juice bottle I use exclusively as a pee bottle.

One more picture from Jan! I was complaining that I don't take enough pictures of myself, so she pulled out her phone and took one! |
Around 8:30 pm another hiker walked by me in the dark using his headlamp. He might be night hiking on purpose, but my guess is he was out of water, and needed to keep hiking until he found some. My my calculation, he had another 3-4 miles to go!
Thanks for following along.
