Days 5 and 6 were all about the Grand Canyon. I stood on the south rim once before, but walking from one rim to the other with a night at the bottom is, as they say, next level!
I wish I had more time to describe how amazing the experience was. Maybe when I finish my hike I'll have to write more about it, but right now I am having difficulty finding the time to both write and hike.
Below are some pictures along the way. The darker pictures were taken before sunrise at the canyon bottom where I crossed the Colorado River. The drop into the canyon and the climb out were over 5,000 feet so my legs are tired and sore. I picked up my first resupply box at the post office on the south rim of the Grand Canyon, quickly repacked my backpack, and hiked another 6 miles to a motel for a much needed shower.
The next 102 miles to Flagstaff are relatively flat, but my pack will be heavy because water sources are literally few and far between. I will be taking a zero day (no hiking) in Flagstaff and hope to be able to write more when I am there. For now, enjoy the pictures. Click on any one of them to see full-sized images in gallery mode!
