My final day on trail was bitter sweet. I was excited to have completed the Arizona Trail, but knew I would be missing it soon! From where I camped, I hiked 10 miles to the border and was lucky there was three other southbound thru-hikers there. A hiker from Flagstaff Arizona offered me a cocktail to celebrate! I declined the cocktail, but did accept her offer to take some pictures of me at the border. After the other hikers left, I spent about 30 minutes at the boarder and then began the 2 mile hike back to Montezuma Pass Trailhead where I would get a ride to Tucson. I arrived at the trailhead around noon, dropped my pack, kicked off my shoes, and ate my final meal on trail: cold soaked refried beans, cheese, corn chips, and a bag of skittles! My ride arrived on time and by 4 pm I was soaking in a bathtub in a motel in Tucson near the airport. Later that evening I enjoyed some excellent chicken tacos and made a quick stop at Target to purchase laundry soap and deodorant! Looking like a thru-hiker on an airplane is acceptable...smelling like one is not!

My total time on the Arizona Trail includes 5 zero days (no hiking) 6 nero days (hiking half day) which means I averaged about 20.5 miles per day over 39 hiking days. For reference, the fastest known time is: 13d 3h 21m 0s. That's approximately 60 miles per day!

Nothing to report!
